When you move to or even visit a new country that you are unfamiliar with, it is important to do some research about the country's culture, laws, and customs. Being prepared will not only help you to integrate more easily into a new environment, but it can also help to keep you out of trouble! It's important to understand at a basic level, how the country operates, learn what kinds of verbal and non-verbal communication and behaviors are expected, learn how to be polite and respectful in a way that is specific to that country's people, and learn to be flexible, adaptable, and aware of your surroundings! Remember, something that is acceptable in your home country could be rude or offensive to people in another! All cultures are different so keep an open mind to new customs, beliefs, and practices, even if they may be unusual to you.
